HOME Line interns advocate for Minnesota Tenants

by Michael Dahl, Public Policy Director on 19 February 2010

HOME Line interns are doing amazing work.  Here’s why they support tenant rights:

Mark (Funky Tactics) Thomson: “I support the Tenant Bill of Rights because a heated house should be the least of a renter’s concerns.  As a busy student, I can’t afford to worry whether my landlord will provide the basic necessities.”

Rachel (The Sage Scribe) Simmons: “Just picture what the Legislature can do with the support of Minnesota renters!  Who wouldn’t want to support the Tenant Bill of Rights?”

Addison (Mr. Clean … Government) Lewis: Addison has been following the struggles of tenants living at Hickory Ridge in Maple Grove.  Heat that doesn’t work, high turnover in staff, and a very tense mood between tenants and management … Addison just shakes his head, “There ought to be a fix for this.  That’s the job of our elected leaders!”

Carla (Legal-Easy) Pinski: “A cornerstone of our United States judicial system is that it [aspires to be] fair to everyone …  The way Minnesota treats it’s tenants currently is unfair … Minnesota should join the trend [of other states], or even lead the way on these issues.  That’s what the Tenant Bill of Rights seeks to accomplish.”

Brian (The Contract) Peterson: After finding out the Bill of Rights would be heard by Civil Justice Committee on February 24th, Brian dropped everything (stopped doing his homework) to invite his friends to attend.  He noted, “The Tenant Bill of Rights seems like common sense.  I’m surprised the ideas aren’t already law.”

Tess (The Raconteur) Gartenberg: “I think of all my friends who could have been helped with the Tenant Bill of Rights were law.  This will result in real improvements in people’s lives.  We need to make this happen.”

Let us know why you support the Tenant Bill of Rights … and if we can share you statements on this blog.
