Rep. Marquart celebrates along with HOME Line's Policy Interns, Brian and Tess (holding bags filled with things renters buy with the Renters' Credit).
Earlier today Representatives Marquart, Lenczewski, and Lanning spoke at a birthday party for the Property Tax Refund Program. Dignitaries, Martin Sabo (former Congressman and Speaker of the Minnesota House) and Wendell Anderson (Minnesota’s Governor in 1975), were also on hand to offer kind words about the refund program, which includes the Renters’ Credit and the Circuit Breaker.
Rep. Lenczewski applauded the program as progressive and means-tested. In other words, it makes the tax system fairer and goes to those who need tax relief most.
The Minnesota Supreme Court is currently considering a legal challenge to Governor Pawlenty’s partial unallotment of the Renters’ Credit program. If the Court doesn’t reverse the Governor’s action, low-income renters will see on average $129 less from the rebate this August.
