The corporate neighbor

College campuses around the country are a hot bed for rental housing, so it is no surprise that a lot of the articles we find come from the Minnesota Daily. This article discuses some new trends in rental housing, especially on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Many landlords have gone semi-corporate to help minimize their risk and help with taxes. While creating separate LLCs for each building helps landlords, it complicates inspections and University policies. Landlord, Jim Eischens, has a vested interest in at least 41 LLCs alone.

Another advantage for landlords like Eischens is that if you are renting from “Twin Cities Housing and Realty,” you don’t automatically have the negative association that comes from his notorious last name. And having lived in an Eischens property (unwittingly), I can say that his poor reputation is well-deserved.
