Our VISTA Cohort completed their intensive, two month onboarding this month with a two day version of University of Minnesota Center for Urban & Regional Affairs Training, Neighborhoods Now! with Malik Holt-Shabazz and Ned Moore. After this point, VISTAs will spend significantly more time with their host sites working on their projects, and checking in as a cohort at regular intervals. Check out the cohort’s individual November highlights here!

- Colton: I really enjoyed Neighborhoods Now! I thought it was a really good training that taught us the whole cycle of a movement and some of the basics when it comes to building a movement. It’s one of those trainings that gives you a lot to think about and applies very well to the work I’m doing.
- Isa: Neighborhoods Now! was a great opportunity for me to work with my cohort and really get a grasp of what everyone is individually working on in a sweet and real way.
- Hannah: My highlight was finding two stray kittens while out doorknocking and getting them a home!
- Ramia: In November, my Vista highlight consisted of remarkable experiences in which I had the privilege to participate, as well as the exceptional individuals I connected with and learned from. I particularly enjoyed engaging in Neighborhoods Now!, public speaking, and facilitation with HUGE Improv training, in addition to attending numerous other training sessions and workshops. I eagerly anticipate acquiring further knowledge from individuals who share similar interests and whose insights I highly admire.
- Lucid: My November highlight was holding a tenant meeting at Union Flats and seeing over 25 residents show up to learn how to stand up for their rights!
- Austin: My November highlight was attending and participating in Neighborhoods Now! with the cohort and other community members. The collaborative atmosphere was really uplifting, and it was great to hear about the important work of colleagues. The principles of community organizing we discussed in the training have been motivating, and I’m excited to apply them moving forward.
