HOME Line VISTA Program March Highlights

April 9, 2024 by HOME Line Organizing Staff Leave a Comment

The HOME Line VISTA Members had a busy March, as you’ll see in the Member Highlights on our website. We had successful midyear site visits, a shared training with MN Alliance with Youth about Youth Voice and Youth & Adult Partnerships, and reconnected at a midyear retreat, where we mapped our mycelial networks to see how they’ve grown, revisited our community agreements to make them more personalized as we’ve gotten to know each other, and talked through project management techniques.

Six individual pictures of six different people, each hanging from a clothesline
  • Lucid: My March highlight was seeing the Renter Engagement Committee leaders grow so much doing outreach for our community meal. The meal was also great and I got to meet some awesome people from the neighborhood.
  • Isa: Neighborhoods Next was huge for me. I love being surrounded by other like-minded people, getting tips, and sharing projects that we are working on. I made some great connections and got to strengthen relationships I already had. The experience, all in all, got me thinking of ways that I want to move in the world and really inspired me to keep going.
  • Ramia: In March, I sustained a fracture in my left toe and had the opportunity to participate in the Neighborhood Next Training, along with other beneficial training sessions. I have also formed connections with exceptional community leaders, whose activism and insights have been valuable. In addition, I’ve gathered valuable resources to share with my community members and further the progress of my projects. I am excited to start volunteering and offering assistance to the HOME Line Hotline!
  • Austin: My highlight for the month of March was the Community Organizer Get Together at Eastside Freedom Library. It is a joy to be in community with others, and coming together makes it possible for things to improve.
  • Colton: I have two notable highlights from March.  One is I’ve really started to get a hang of doing one to one meetings with residents. It has been my goal to do more of these and after doing multiple trainings and actual one to ones I feel like I’m starting to understand the purpose of a one to one and how to execute a successful meeting. My second highlight is the Midyear meeting I had with my supervisors, Turns out I got a lot done in only half a year including door knocking over 500 doors and a know your rights training. I’ll continue to cook for the next month and let everyone know how it goes. Until next time.
  • Hannah: It was great working as a notetaker at PWNO’s first community meeting of the year! We connected with so many people interested in the neighborhood’s development
