Call to Action: Urge Minnesota Legislators to Negotiate a Strong Renters’ Rights Package

May 7, 2024 by Michael Dahl 2 Comments

The Minnesota Legislature has created a special committee to work out the differences between the Senate and House bills concerning renters’ rights.  We need your help. Please email the following legislators urging them to negotiate a strong tenant rights package:

Senate

  • Senator Mohamed (click on the Senator’s name to access their email form)
  • Senator Oumou Verbeten (click on the Senator’s name to access their email form)
  • Senator Housley (click on the Senator’s name to access their email form)

House

  • Representative Agbaje, e-mail directly: rep.esther.agbaje@house.mn.gov
  • Representative Howard, e-mail directly: rep.michael.howard@house.mn.gov
  • Representative Myers, e-mail directly: rep.andrew.myers@house.mn.gov

Feel free to use the suggested script below or write your own.

Dear Senator/Representative ______:

It is critical that the Landlord and Tenant Omnibus Policy Bill includes strong tenant protections! Prohibiting landlords from discriminating against renters who use a subsidy to help pay their rent (this is also known as Source of Income Protections), protecting tenants from retaliation by landlords when they want to organize to improve their living situations, (this is also known as Tenants’ Right to Organize), and making sure that tenants’ homes are quality places to live are all key for a strong tenant rights package. I urge you to ensure that Senate File 3492 / House File 3591 includes these and other tenant protections to make a more equitable tenant/landlord relationship. Thank you.

Sincerely,
