On November 13th, 2024, HOME Line Housing Attorney and Communications Coordinator Rachael Sterling hosted a webinar covering the new Tenant Right to Organize laws that are effective on January 1st, 2025—a new statute, 504B.212, codifies a tenant’s right to organize and prohibits landlord retaliation for tenant organizing. We were joined by Juan Luis Rivera-Reyes, Coalition Organizer at the Alliance and Margaret Kaplan, President of the Housing Justice Center, who were instrumental in getting the new law through the 2024 Legislature. Presenters also fielded a range of questions from webinar attendees.
HOME Line has been hosting regular tenant/landlord legal webinars since mid-April 2020, initially about COVID-19 issues, and expanding to other topics since then. Over 7,500 tenants, social workers and landlords have watched these live presentations from 1,300 organizations. Over 6,200 have watched recorded versions
