HOME Line’s VISTA cohort members hosted a pair of virtual tenant rights trainings this month as part of the cohort’s mission to engage renters who are facing, or may face, displacement and/or substandard housing conditions.
Cohort member Isa hosted a virtual training on January 21 as part of the Central Area Neighborhood Organization’s (CANDO) Tenant Get Together series. These monthly meetings are a “space for renters in South Minneapolis to learn and share rental experiences.” Participants gathered to learn the essentials of tenant-landlord law and be able to better advocate for themselves in solving rental challenges. Renters had the opportunity to share current problems and past experiences to gain insight on solving those problems now and in the future.
Hannah, serving with the Phillips West Neighborhood Organization (PWNO), hosted a virtual tenant rights training on January 28. PWNO described the event as an opportunity to “learn about the recent changes to renters’ rights that began on January 1, 2025 for evictions, emergencies, and more.” Participants learned tenant rights and responsibilities throughout the rental process – from applying for an apartment to ending a lease. Those in attendance also had the opportunity to learn about new laws that took effect at the beginning of the year and connected to further resources.
