Ms. Beverly is serving with the Harrison Neighborhood Association (HNA) in Near North, Minneapolis. HNA is a small but powerful place-based organization that works to create a prosperous and peaceful community that equitably benefits all of the Harrison neighborhood’s diverse racial, cultural, and economic groups. Ms. Beverly’s service will build the capacity of renters in the Harrison neighborhood to organize and solve their own rental housing problems.
Helping others comes naturally to Ms. Beverly, making VISTA service an ideal fit. She was first connected to HNA after starting a tenant association in her own building and now gets to share what she’s learned with her neighbors in the Harrison neighborhood. “If I can help my next-door neighbor, then I feel good,” said Ms. Beverly. “I’ve had a lot of help in my life, and I get to pay it forward.”
