Keep HOME Line Moving!

April 22, 2010 by Eric Hauge

Beginning at 9 am on June 14th,
HOME Line staff, volunteers, and friends will run a Treadmill-A-Thon relay-run/walk on a treadmill in our office. Our goal is keep the treadmill running for at least 50 hours and raise at least $25,000 – if more cash comes in, HOME Line will keep the treadmill going.

Who: People who love HOME Line
When:
From 9am on June 14th, for 50 hours at least!
Where:
HOME Line’s Office (3455 Bloomington Ave, Minneapolis)
What:
A Treadmill-A-Thon relay-run/walk for at least 50 hours to raise $25,000 – if more cash comes in, HOME Line will keep the treadmill going!
HOME Line provides free legal, organizing, education, and advocacy services so that tenants throughout Minnesota can solve their own rental housing problems:
  • Hotline:
Renters from across the state can receive free legal advice about rental issues. Last year, HOME Line staff and volunteers fielded over
    11,000 calls from Minnesota tenants.
  • Organizing:
Our team assists residents in working collectively to address building-wide rental issues as well as save affordable housing. HOME Line organizing has preserved over 1000 units of affordable housing.
  • Advocacy:
HOME Line is working to preserve the Renters’ Credit and pass a Minnesota Tenant Bill of Rights. Work this year will make Minnesota law
more tenant-friendly and save tenants millions of dollars through revisions to policies on tenant screening fees, late fees, attorney fees, and
    security deposits.

Funds raised during the Treadmill-A-Thon will help us keep this work strong.

Throughout the event a webcam will let anyone with an internet connection watch right here. HOME Line will,
of course, use the webcast to have some fun with its staff and volunteers.

However, we will also educate the community about renters’ rights.
Expert runners/housing advocates will:

  1. share the main reasons tenants
    call us for help, as well as what we advise them to do;
  2. talk about state and federal
    and affordable housing campaigns; and,
  3. provide a public tutorial
    on Minnesota tenant-landlord law

Runners: You can sign up for 15-minute increments on the treadmill by registering with debr@homelinemn.org. Once you’ve secured your spot, tell your friends to support your run!  You can set up a fundraising page & automatically contact people in your address book (Gmail, Facebook, etc.) by using our page on GiveMN.org (click the big “Fundraise” button on the right side to set up your own page).

Sponsors: The webpage broadcasting the event will list sponsors.

Donors:
Our goal is to raise at least $25,000 from individual donors paying
to keep the treadmill going. All contributions are tax-deductible.
We will also give donors the option of contributing more to:

  • schedule when someone needs
to run – make a HOME Line staff person run at 3 am!
  • make a runner wear a funny
    costume – clown costumes, anyone?

Donate now! Please donate to support HOME Line’s programs and to pledge your support of a friend or family member who is filling in one of our treadmill time slots during the 50 hours! You can pledge your support to an individual by entering their name in the “Special Instructions” box while donating on Paypal, or click “Add a Designation” if your donating via GiveMN.org.
