On November 8th, 2017, HOME Line lost its founder and former executive director Charlie Warner. He helped establish HOME Line as the only statewide tenants rights hotline in Minnesota and volunteered over 3,157 hours after he retired. He volunteered more than any other volunteer in HOME Line’s history. We’ll be sharing more about Charlie’s legacy over the next few weeks on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
I fondly remember Charlie from when I worked with Minneapolis Housing and Redevelopment Authority (MHRA) precursor to the MCDA. This was in the 1970’s when Model Cities was an ongoing program. He was a charming, passionate and very committed person to whatever cause he adopted.
We both were from the Milwaukee area. So I remember giving him a ride to his family home either for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Oh it was such a fun ride — seemed over as it began. His conversations were always thoughtful and insightful.
Lost track of him over the years . . . but I never forgot him.
I remember Charlie as he looked in the T shirt. His passion for giving a voice to the city’s renters was unparalleled. RIP, Charlie.
Oh no. I was going to ask Sherri Coates how Charlie was doing, but Googled his name first, and saw this. He was quite a guy, with an awful lot of passion for doing the right thing. Sherri and I were the 1st volunteers who worked for Charlie at Homeline. He was a good man. RIP Charlie.
