On September 16th, HOME Line hosted a free webinar to share information about current legal issues that Minnesota renters are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week we covered updates with eviction suspensions–both the Federal CDC suspension and the recent extension of Minnesota suspension until 10/12/20. We also discussed several recently filed court cases: one challenging the Federal CDC eviction suspension and one challenging recently enacted tenant protections in the City of Minneapolis.

- Recently announced federal CDC/HHS eviction suspension, effective 9/4/20. Note: Here in Minnesota, the Governor’s Executive Order that suspends almost all evictions and landlord-initiated lease terminations (EO 20-79) is substantially more protective for renters than the CDC suspension in most key aspects. Because of this, the CDC suspension currently DOES NOT APPLY in states that already have stronger protections, like Minnesota.
