On August 11th, HOME Line hosted another COVID-19 webinar—the recording is further below. In addition to sharing general updates about the eviction moratorium phaseout (and the new CDC order), we were joined by several guest speakers who discussed two new state laws impacting tenant/landlord relationships that go into effect this summer.
Colleen Walbran, an Attorney with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, and Laura Jelinek, an Attorney with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services discussed a new law that went into effect 8/1/21 that imposes certain requirements and documentation obligations for tenants who are in need of a service animal or support animal to live in their unit. New law, MN statute 504B.113.
Sam Parmekar, a University of Minnesota student and State Government Director with the Minnesota Student Association, discussed their advocacy and shared information about another new law (in effect 9/1/21) that sets requirements for prorated rent when a lease ends before the end of the month. New law, MN Statute 504B.116.
HOME Line has been hosting webinars since mid-April on COVID-19 and how it affects Minnesota landlords and tenants. Over 6,000 tenants, social workers and landlords have watched these live presentations and over 3,200 have watched recorded versions. We’ll continue to host webinars about the phaseout of the eviction moratorium weekly throughout August. Click here to see schedule & registration for all upcoming webinars.
