Speeches/Trainings

HOME Line offers trainings for a wide variety of groups. Since opening in 1992, we’ve spoken to over 75,000 attendees attending over 2,475 speeches in 37 different counties across the state. We’ve given dozens of statewide webinars as well, including our award-winning webinars explaining the frequently shifting landlord/tenant laws during COVID-19.

Our team of experienced speakers includes experienced attorneys, tenant organizers & tenant advocates fluent in Spanish, Hmong & Somali. See our staff list for their credentials.

Groups we’ve spoken to include:

  • Tenants
  • Transitional housing/shelter residents/participants
  • Landlords
  • Housing Redevelopment Authorities (HRA’s)
  • Social Workers/Service Providers
  • Students (both College and High School)
  • City Inspectors
  • Police Officers/Law Enforcement
  • Government Staff
  • Individuals About to be Released From Incarceration

HOME Line can present on a wide variety of landlord/tenant related topics, including, but not limited to:

  • Repairs
    • The top reason tenants have historically contacted HOME Line.  Who is responsible for repairs and how can a tenant force this issue for landlords who won’t make needed repairs.
  • Evictions
    • Why do landlords file evictions? How does the process work, from beginning to end?
  • Security Deposits
    • What are the deadlines with deposits?  Best practices for landlords on deposits. How tenants can best protect their deposit.
  • Notice to Vacate at End of Lease
    • These rules generally apply the same for both landlords and tenants and we can explain the most common formats and timelines.
  • Privacy
    • When can a landlord enter a rental unit? How much notice is necessary? What about emergencies?
  • Discrimination/Fair Housing
    • What groups are protected under federal, state and local law?
  • Leases
    • Understanding the most common things that show up in leases. What landlords should/shouldn’t include and what tenants should look for before signing the lease.

Whether virtual or in-person, HOME Line can customize a speech to fit a group’s schedule. Most speeches are during the work-week, but we can also arrange speeches on weekends or weeknights.

If you’d like to inquire about a training, see this page explaining our rates and submit a request for information about speeches.
