Samuel Spaid is a staff attorney and the Research Director at HOME Line. Through his work at HOME Line, he hopes to help tenants understand and enforce their rights and increase the amount of safe and affordable housing available to residential tenants in Minnesota.
A graduate of the University of St. Thomas School of Law, he has worked at HOME Line since 2009. He advises more than 1,500 tenants a year and represents tenants at all levels of state court. He helps train and supervise HOME Line volunteers, regularly gives presentations about landlord-tenant law to a variety of groups, including law students, attorneys, and landlords, and assists with managing HOME Line’s tenant hotline database. Samuel was also the project manager and co-author of The Landlord’s Guide to Minnesota Law.
As HOME Line’s Research Director, Samuel helps direct and implement HOME Line’s research policies, objectives, and initiatives. This research centers on understanding the problems tenants face in areas relevant to safe and affordable housing. The results highlight the difficulties and successes tenants have and help inform internal, local, and statewide policy.
