HOME Line Statement of Solidarity – January 23 Day of Truth & Freedom

January 22, 2026 by HOME Line Staff & Board

THANK YOU TO THE ORGANIZERS OF & PARTICIPANTS IN THE 1/23 DAY OF TRUTH & FREEDOM HOME LINE'S HOTLINE WILL BE OPEN ON 1/23 TO RESPOND TO EMERGENCY CALLS Tenant Hotline: 612-728-5767 Email an Attorney: https://homelinemn.org/e-mail-an-attorney/HOME Line stands in solidarity with unions, faith leaders, and neighbors across Minnesota who are organizing and participating in the January 23 Day of Truth and Freedom and the call for an economic blackout. This moment demands honesty about the conditions we and our neighbors are living under, and collective action to change them.

We believe solidarity looks like both resistance and care. We have encouraged our staff to participate in the Day of Truth and Freedom in ways that feel right to them: by taking part in actions, volunteering in their neighborhoods, taking care of their mental health, remaining on the hotline to meet urgent tenant needs, or doing a combination of all. We trust our staff to make the choice that aligns with their values, capacity, and commitment to our neighbors.

Our tenant hotline will remain open on Friday, staffed by attorneys and tenant advocates who have chosen to stay on the lines because housing crises do not pause. We are currently experiencing longer response times due to an extraordinary surge in need, including:

  • Ongoing high call volume related to unsafe and unlivable housing conditions.
  • Growing numbers of eviction filings across the state, related almost entirely to non-payment.
  • A 72% increase in calls related to financial assistance since December 1, compared to the same period last year.
  • A sharp and deeply concerning rise in calls where ICE activity is directly causing housing instability, fear, and displacement.

We hold both anger and heartbreak at what tenants are facing—and deep respect for the collective action happening across Minnesota to demand a more just society. We believe no one should have to choose between safety, housing, and survival.

On January 23, and every day, HOME Line remains committed to standing with our neighbors—connecting people to accessible and actionable information, protection, and each other, while supporting the broader movement for dignity, justice, and collective care.
