Colton: On June 9, Elliot Park Neighborhood hosted Neighborhood Day at Franklin Steele Square Park along with MPRB. During the event, MPRB held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction taking place at Franklin Steele Square. I got to talk with neighbors, play yard games, and help clean up the park. It was a fun event!
Tami: My highlight for June is that I wrapped up the interview phase of my narrative project. I interviewed 42 people in total and have transcribed 21 of the interviews so far. I’m also excited because we created a volunteer position description to recruit a volunteer transcriptionist, which we’re planning to post in one of the upcoming HOME Line newsletters to assist with the project.
Isa: In the month of June, CANDO ran a pilot program for eviction defense in the Central neighborhood. With assistance from our partnership with HOME Line, I use neighborhood-specific eviction data to go door-to-door and offer support and resources. The short-term goal is to help people who want to stay in the neighborhood remain there, and the long-term goal is to identify trends in the reasons for eviction.
Ms. Beverly: Graduating from Neighborhoods Now! and receiving my certificate, as well as having my poem published in a poetry book. My poem was dedicated to Renée Good and Alex Pretti.
Savannah: June focused on creating video presentation slides, meeting with fellow VISTA cohort members to prepare for the final months of the service year, and improving our upcoming RentWise curriculum training.
Hannah: In June, Phillips West Neighborhood Organization (PWNO) kicked off our summer outreach with housing office hours in the park and the return of our renters’ rights forums.
