Eviction Filings Continue to Outpace Recent Years
Looking at the first half of 2026, eviction filings remain elevated across much of Minnesota. Statewide, 12,254 eviction cases were filed between January and June—0.5% higher than the same period in 2025 and 5.8% above the average for the first half of 2023-2025.

June saw a notable decline in eviction filings in St. Paul following implementation of the city’s temporary 60-day pre-eviction notice requirement. St. Paul recorded just 74 eviction filings in June, a 69.8% decrease compared to June 2025, while Ramsey County overall saw filings decline by 49.7%. It will take additional months of data to determine the long-term impact of the ordinance, but the initial decrease is significant.

Filings within Hennepin & Ramsey Counties were influenced by trends in the core cities—with Hennepin seeing slight increases and Ramsey seeing decreases.

The 7-county metro recorded 8,301 filings, a 3.6% increase over 2025 and 11.5% above the recent three-year average, driven by substantial increases during March and April. Outside the metro, eviction filings totaled 2,448, down 4.7% from 2025 and 6.3% below the recent average, suggesting that much of the statewide increase continues to be concentrated in the Twin Cities region.
