Last month was our busiest May ever on the tenant hotline. We set a record for both new and total contacts (calls and emails) from renter households. Staff advised 1,647 new contacts, a 13% increase over last May, connecting with tenants 3,130 times last month.
Here are the top 10 topics that clients contacted the hotline about last month compared to May, 2023.

Repairs continue their resumption of our top reason for calls, a full 25% up from May, 2023 while Evictions continue to trend down, decreasing by over 20% in May 2024 versus May 2023. Most of the other categories in the top 10 issues also saw substantial increases. Springtime also ushers in the security deposit ‘season’ which also means more calls about deposits. Tenants tend to move out between March-October every year in MN because of concerns about the weather, so the majority of our security deposit calls happen during those months.
