April Hotline Volume up 8% from 2024

May 5, 2025 by Mike Vraa Leave a Comment

We’re a third of the way through 2025, and the tenant hotline is on pace for its highest yearly call volume ever. So far in 2025 we’ve been contacted (via email or phone)  by 6,967 renter households, an 8% increase over 2024. Our total contacts (new plus follow-ups) are also at a record level. with 12,227 total contacts, also an 8% increase over last year.

April continued this record setting pace with our busiest April ever. We had 1,655 new contacts, up from last April’s 1,537, an 8% increase over last year.

Here are the top 10 reasons tenants contacted us in April, 2025 compared to April, 2024.

Contact ReasonNumber of ContactsChange from April ’24
1. Evictions398+ 16%
2. Repairs397No Change
3. Lease Questions183+ 41%
4. Landlord Notice to Vacate150+ 16%
5. Security Deposit143– 15%
6. Break Lease119– 7%
7. Financial Aid111+ 68%
8. Fees70– 6%
9. Privacy/Intrusion62– 22%
10. Rent Increase60No Change

Increases in questions about evictions and financial aid questions continue to explain the increased call-volume for 2025 with Financial assistance questions climbing 68% over the same time last year.

Repairs remained closely behind Eviction contacts for April. This is traditionally the top reason tenants contact HOME Line, but as the economy continues to challenge a wide swath of the population, it seems to be a coin flip whether evictions or repairs will be the top reason tenants will contact us in a given month.
