Record Call Volumes Not Slowing Down in October 2022

November 8, 2022 by Mike Vraa Leave a Comment

October 2022 was the tenant hotline’s busiest October ever. This has been true all year (back to November of 2021).  We had 1,588 new calls and 3,155 total calls (new plus follow-up calls). October was our busiest month ever for follow-ups, slightly eclipsing August, 2022.

For all of 2022, the tenant hotline continues to set records.  Since 1992, the hotline has gone over 15,000 new calls in a year only three times (2014, 2019 and 2021).  After October, we’ve already hit 16,785—meaning there’s an outside chance we’ll go over 20,000 new calls for the year.

But the new calls are only a part of the story. We’ve had a larger increase in follow-up calls/emails this year as issues are much more complex and ongoing.  In 2021, we had 9,602 follow-up calls. After only 10 months this year, we’re up to 12,276 follow-ups.

What’s driving this increase in calls? In short, it’s the same answer we’ve seen all year. Eviction calls are way up. Last October, we had 201 calls about evictions, this year it’s up to 522. Here are the top 10 reasons for calls in October.
