January 2026 was our busiest month ever for new contacts (emails and calls combined): 2,095. This is the sixth time since 2022 that we’ve reset this high bar. The previous high mark was last July (2,065), and prior to that it was last January (2,045).
As mentioned last month, this follows our busiest year for new contacts since opening in 1992.
Here are the top 10 reasons for contacts last month compared to last January.
Evictions reclaimed the top reason for contacts. Over the last year, it has been either repairs or evictions at the top. The most surprising entry in the top 10 this month is financial aid—a close cousin to evictions. Ninety percent of Minnesota evictions are for nonpayment of rent, so people are looking for financial assistance to avoid being evicted. Financial aid has never placed this high in a monthly list of reasons for calls; security deposit and break lease questions are almost always in the #3 and #4 spots.
