Three Straight Record Months for Tenant Hotline Contacts

March 6, 2026 by Mike Vraa Leave a Comment

We just had our busiest February ever, both for new contacts (calls and emails) and total contacts (including follow-ups). This is the third straight busiest year-to-year month for new contacts. In December, January, and February, we set all-time marks for new contacts in each month.

Here are the top 10 reasons for contacts last month compared to last February.

Evictions were firmly the top reason for tenants reaching out to us. Normally, evictions and repairs are much closer in volume, but evictions plus financial assistance questions continued to surge on the hotline. We also had a pretty sizable bump in questions about the Renter’s Credit—eligible tenants receive a tax refund for the estimated portion of their rent that went toward property taxes. Beginning last year (with 2024 taxes), renters no longer file a Renter’s Property Tax Refund return (Form M1PR) and instead claim the Credit as part of their Individual Income Tax return—click here to learn more.
