April Brings Record Tenant Hotline Activity

May 8, 2026 by Mike Vraa Leave a Comment

his was the tenant hotline’s busiest April ever. We set records for new, follow-up, and total calls/emails for April. There was a 15% increase in total client contacts over last April, with 3,489 this year. That’s our third-highest monthly total ever, which is more than a little surprising for April (only 30 days—not a summer/heavy deposit month). We’re at a blistering pace for the year, with a 5% increase in new contacts over last year, which set the all-time record for new contacts.

Here are the top 10 reasons for new contacts this April compared to last April:

Evictions remain firmly in the top spot for reasons why tenants contacted our tenant hotline, with a 15% increase over last April. Financial aid requests also continue to be at historically elevated levels, with 64% more questions about this than last April.

This is likely among the lowest monthly positions for Security Deposits, which typically are in the top five reasons tenants reach out to HOME Line and are many times in the top three each month. This month, it slipped to #7, but is likely to climb back up as we enter security deposit “season,” when tenants are most likely to move out of their rental units.
