May Hotline Trends: Repairs Rise, Demand Remains High

June 6, 2026 by Mike Vraa Leave a Comment

This was our busiest May ever for both new contacts (1,700) and total contacts (3,211), which includes follow-ups. For new contacts, we were up an astounding 23% over May 2025. We’re nearly 8% above last year’s record pace for new contacts through the first five months of the year.

Here are the top 10 reasons for new contacts this May compared to May 2025:

Repairs reclaimed the top spot among the reasons tenants contacted the tenant hotline. This has historically been the case since HOME Line opened in 1992. But in the past couple of years, evictions and repairs have traded back and forth as the most common reason tenants contact our hotline. Inquiries about financial aid remain elevated due in large part to the lingering impacts of Operation Metro Surge, with double the number of households seeking assistance in May 2026 compared to the previous May.

What is most remarkable about this month is that 9 of the top 10 topics saw increases, and 8 of those 9 had double-digit percentage increases.
