Request for Prelease Deposit

A prelease deposit is money paid by a prospective tenant to a landlord before a lease is signed, separate from an application fee. Landlords must follow certain requirements to lawfully accept them. Use this letter to ask a landlord to return your prelease deposit if they have violated the requirements of Minnesota Statute 504B.175. If you are not sure whether the landlord has violated Minnesota Statute 504B.175, call HOME Line to speak with a tenant advocate.
