A prelease deposit is money paid by a prospective tenant to a landlord before a lease is signed, separate from an application fee. Landlords must follow certain requirements to lawfully accept them. Use this letter to ask a landlord to return your prelease deposit if they have violated the requirements of Minnesota Statute 504B.175.
